Welcome to our home blog. We're not perfectionists, we just try to keep the home tidy and manageable.

Roofers

Following the home remodeling article some time ago, let's look up roofers this time. Having a home with a roof that is not durable or is of a mismatch to how your home is designed would be chaotic. As with other jobs, roofing requires skills that is gained through learning and experience, we might not see it that way but it includes various areas like math, carpentry and construction. How do you get the best roofer in town? Asking around is the old way, ask a family member if they know people in the roofing industry, surely they will point you to someone who had a roofing done job too. Using the phone book is another easy step or ask a local home supply center. Contractors will ...

More Flowers

One need not be an expert in Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, to effectively display flowers of your choice at home. Here's what you should remember when arranging flowers. --- Balance Balance is important physically and visually. Physical balance is necessary to insure the arrangement does not fall. Visual balance refers to whether the eye picks up similar shapes, colors and textures on both sides of the arrangement. Scale Flowers and plants used in an arrangement should be sized in proportion to each other and the container they will be placed in. While flowers can vary in size somewhat within an arrangement, very large flowers mixed with very small ones ...

Remodeling vs Buying

Nowadays, remodeling one's home is a better option than buying a new one especially when budget is considered and when thinking of the convenience of staying where you have lived for a long time. Transporting furniture and stuff or buying new ones doesn't cost only much, its tiring too. Remodeling also increases the value of your home just in case in the near future you have no choice but to actually sell your property. It is but for many the best option and in actuality opted by homeowners. In a lot of cities, remodeling projects are counted more than having to build a new one. Choosing to remodel one's home means trusting someone how you want it done, rather than doing the thinking ...

Plants, Planters, Pots

-- I've been thinking of removing the big palm tree in our living room as it has withered slowly these past months. My guess was, the pot isn't big enough to contain the growing roots, or maybe I just got a black thumb. Besides, I could actually use new decorative containers (planters) that complements our red walls. I thought of visiting the nearest garden/interior supplies outlet to look for plants and planters alike, but because they are closed this holiday season I ended up looking online for planters. Planterixchange.com was my first stop, a detailed website of both decorative outdoor planters as well as indoor designer pots. The site listed a detailed category of all planters ...

If I were

There's a Facebook application about "5 things I have wanted to be when I grow up" that I answered earlier and I chose those that at some point in my life I dreamed of doing.  Being an interior designer is one of my 'what could have beens.' Then of course, I could still be my own house's interior designer and I am.  Though our wall's color (below photo) is hubby's choice, the smaller details are mine. I have always enjoyed browsing  decorators catalogues, furniture brochures and  home improvement ideas websites for some tips and tricks or I would just simply enjoy the photos. :D Those materials are also good sources if one is filling up a home and still trying to find classic or modern ...

Slipcovers

I was cleaning our living room earlier when I noticed our white leather sofa's black spots. :( I really felt bad because hubby and I has given it good care since the time we bought it; but as he said, all furnitures have their "end." The sofa has been with us for five years now, has 3 kids jumping on it and sometimes eating there as they watch movies. I sometimes put on a slipcover, well two pieces of cloth that serves as cover but not the one pictured here. I think it's only online that I've seen such suede, twill cloth slipcover, there are also recliner slipcover and dining chair slipcovers but I haven't seen one that's shaped like an L as our sofa is. If only there's a tailor/seamstress ...

Customized Home Office and Pods

When hubby started being self-employed, our bedroom suddenly became cramped. Considering the size and plan of our apartment, a home office isn't really doable. Hubby's computer table is relatively big, well for 2 monitors and other stuff. We have tried planning other ways of arranging the furnitures but I don't think it would work out. We will soon be looking for a bigger place and there, perhaps custom home office furniture might be a good solution. Imagine an alloted 10 sq.mtrs room customized with cabinetry of your chosen wood for a home office. A table for your pc and gadgets; thin, organized bookshelves; a small sofa and coffeetable for your visitors would complete the ...

Our Balcony

Some time ago our balcony never looked so naked. I used to have pelargonia and hibisucs in it, fortune plants and harlequins in a plant box. The only plant left there now is our grapevine which has thrived for 4 winters now...It would have fruits at some point but now the leaves are just starting to show. I also used to grow some herbs and place them in the balcon a  bit during summer. I've had basil, oregano, marjoram and parsley to name a few. I'm planning to redesign our balcony this summer. I've actually planted forget-me-not bluebirds in the plant box that has been a seating ashtray for our smoking neighbors who just three their cig butts out the window. Some of the boxes even suffered ...

Rattan Beds

When we were looking for furnitures and stuff, I was surprised that hubby chose this rattan bed, he said "it feels a lot like home." Along with this bed we bought an L-shaped leather sofa, unfortunately, it looks beaten now, after 4 years of enduring being jumped on by the kids. Browsing online for sofas led me to this page of elegant and conservatory furnitures from 2furnish. They offer a wide range of cane and rattan furnitures in the latest and fashionable design that fits one's taste (and living room). Their collection are crafted with great details and designed to suit an individual's need...different sizes - small and compact to big corner seaters. There are L-shaped sofas, 2 ...

On Talents and Faucets

“Talent is like a faucet, while it is open, one must write.”- Jean Anouilh The past week has been a productive one for me, in writing that is. I know it's not how I used to, it's not my style but I thank the opportunity that I am still able to do something I love. So what does the picture have to do with this post? Nothing, it's just a faucet by my son's kindergarten. Since I got a faucet quote, I thought it appropriate to include a photo! ;-) I probably need to work on that, choosing which photos to include in an article and how to relate it well. Now, what if the water flowing froze, what should one do? ^_^ ...
