Choosing the Best for Your Home Theater System

April 4, 2013 by Marie Gizelle Leave a Comment

Admit it; watching movies is a neat escape from the stressful lifestyle you live. Seeing the characters on a bigger-than-life screen and hearing every crisp dialogue makes you feel as though you are part of the movie. Of course, the bitter reality is that it’s only in the movies. Cliché, yes, but it’s true.

Fortunately, modern technology has made it possible for people to enjoy a feel-good movie experience right inside their homes. Yes, you can now bring the movie theater right in your home. What’s even better is that you no longer have to miss an important scene or dialogue because you can rewind the movie or pause it if you need to grab a snack from the kitchen.

According to home theater experts, there’s no need to go all out especially when you’re barely starting to set up a home theater. You can start small, which means you merely have to invest on the basic components that make up a home theater. Later on, when you have saved up more money, you’re free to add or upgrade the stuff you already have. Nevertheless, going “small” doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. The truth is you should understand the need to invest on high-quality stuff that would go a long way.

Apparently, when setting up a home theater, size matters. What does that mean? Simply that you need to consider the size of the room you are going to use as your home theater. The rule is simple: small room, small equipment and big room, big equipment. Placing a plasma or LCD TV that measures 100 inches in a room that barely measures a few feet would be impractical. Claiming that you did so because you want to have a true-to-life theater experience would be a moot point.

A small room would merit a TV set that has a decent size. Nevertheless, you would want to invest on a LED TV that you can mount on the wall for a better viewing experience. The latest DVD player would be a welcome addition, too. Moreover, don’t forget to invest on good speakers. You need to put a speaker on the left, right, and rear portion of the room to achieve a surround sound.

On the other hand, converting a big room would require that you use equipment that would cover it fairly. That means buying a good quality high-definition television set that measures upwards of 40 inches. You would also need around six speakers to allow sound to flow well through the room.

Your choice of equipment would depend on how much money you have put aside for this purpose or how much you are willing to spend. One thing you need to keep in mind, though, is this: if you want to set up a home theater, never sacrifice quality. It would be pointless to buy cheap equipment so you can buy more. You just need the three basic components – a TV set, a DVD player, and speakers – and you need to make sure they function well and would give you a pleasant experience when you finally watch your favorite movie. You can always upgrade your equipment later on.
